Yesterday, the FBI released new details about Navy Yard shooter Aaron Alexis that revealed what drove him to shoot 12 innocent people last week.

We’re also learning that the 34-year-old civilian contractor (who gained legitimate access to the military installation) left a note behind and was prepared to die during his rampage.

The note, according to the FBI, reveals that the mentally ill Alexis was driven to kill by “months of bombardment with extremely low-frequency radio waves,” which explains the phrase “My ELF Weapon” that was carved into the stock of his shotgun (see above).

“Ultra-low frequency attack is what I’ve been subject to for the last 3 months, and to be perfectly honest that is what has driven me to this,” read an electronic document agents recovered after the shooting.

The note, however, did not specify that Alexis had any specific targets or had any workplace disputes that may have driven him to kill.

Authorities said that his behavior in the weeks before the shooting and evidence recovered from his hotel room, backpack and other belongings “reveal a man increasingly in the throes of paranoia and delusions.”

In addition to releasing photos and excerpts from Alexis’ note, the FBI also made a shocking video of Alexis running through the halls of Building 197 available.

Warning: the video is unsettling.
