Miley Cyrus recently sounded off about the backlash she’s received from her MTV VMA performance with Robin Thicke, saying there’s a “double standard,” and now Paula Patton has responded to the 20-year-old pop star’s statement.

If you will recall, Miley told Rolling Stone magazine:

“No one is talking about the man behind the ass. It was a lot of ‘Miley twerks on Robin Thicke,’ but never, ‘Robin Thicke grinds up on Miley.’ They’re only talking about the one that bent over. So obviously there’s a double standard.”

While doing promo for her big Baggage Claim movie premiere tomorrow, Paula told E!:

“It’s just so funny because when I saw him perform I was like, ‘You guys killed it!’ We hugged each other, we went out, celebrated. The next day, my cell phone [has] all these texts: ‘Praying for you.’ ‘If you need to talk, I’m here.’ It was all about the Miley thing and I thought, Why are people making such a big deal about it? Quite frankly, all my friends dance like that with him. He’s like the guy that you can dance with, ’cause he’s safe!”

When made aware of Miley’s comment, Paula responded:

“Listen, I think Miley’s a really cool girl and it’s not fair between men and women but he certainly didn’t take her and back her up into him…If that’s how she feels I totally understand. Robin can handle it.”

Paula said she didn’t “want to make a big deal out of it” and as usual, kept a smile on her beautiful face for the entire conversation.

She may be nice, but she will also set the record straight quick. For the video of her full interview and statement, visit E! Online by clicking here.
