The Daily Grind Video

Everyone is talking about the Kendrick Lamar BET cypher snippet that was released earlier today. Did King Kendrick go at Drake?

Well that answer is yes, but those 15 seconds don’t even capture half the dopeness of his verse. Kendrick went H.A.M. during the TDE cypher at the BET Hip-Hop Awards. (We know because we were there in ATL).

While Kendrick’s verse was the standout of the show, even better than his actual performance, there are a lot of other verses worth checking out.

The first cypher features Wax, Rapsody, Emis Killa, Rittz, and Jon Connor. The verse you’re going to want to check out from this one is Jon Connor. Dude does his thing!

The A$AP Mob holds down the second cypher, but aside from Ferg and Rocky, no one else says anything to launch them to another level.

The third cypher sparked some cheers from the crowd, as the legendary Lil Kim showed up after getting some props from Tiffany Foxx. Ms. Tiffany surprisingly stole the show during a cypher with Action Bronson and Travi$ Scott.

Slaughterhouse was hitting clean up with the fourth cypher with Joell Ortiz, Crooked, Royce and Joe Budden. There was no “Hi Rihanna” moment this year. And while this one was the only cypher where everyone satisfied, it still didn’t live up to some of their old cypher verses. But don’t get it twisted, this cypher has bars for days.

TDE holds down the fifth cypher and while no one was wack, and Jay Rock threw a couple of verbal darts, it was Kendrick Lamar who stole the show and outshone his crew like the sun to a flashlight.

The sixth cypher was the sleeper and probably my personal favorite: the Real House Husbands of Hollywood with Chocolate Drop holding it down. The highlight of this cypher was Nick Cannon, who kills it with harsh battle lyrics. Nelly does his thing, but it was still Kevin Hart, aka Chocolate Drop, that left the crowd in tears! Album dropping Neveraury 35th.

The seventh cypher happened, but I missed it.

Be on the lookout for all the cyphers to premiere during the BET Hip-Hop Awards, airing Oct. 15th on BET.
