Lamar Odom was out celebrating a friend’s birthday in North Hollywood when he was approached by a young boy hoping to snap a pic with the former basketball player.
TMZ reports that Lamar initially turned the 7-year-old away, offering to shake his hand and chat him up for a bit instead. As the two began to chop it up, Lamar offered the young boy some advice we hope he’ll hang on to for life! Odom warned the little guy of the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of staying in school.
This interesting advice comes on the coat tails of rumors that Lamar has been struggling with drug abuse issues of his own. The star’s marriage to Khloe Kardashian is reportedly on the rocks, and he was also stopped and eventually arrested for driving under the influence; he has not yet gone to court for the charges.
The young boy’s mother says after the chat, Lamar agreed to snap a photo with the kid.
Lamar also foot the bill for the birthday party, which totaled more than $1,000.
It’s a good sign that Lamar is speaking freely about drug abuse; he may finally be getting the help he needs.
