It hasn’t been the best year in the world for New York City rap. First, Kendrick Lamar crowned himself the king of the town on Big Sean’s “Control.” And now, Trinidad Jame$ is coming at NYC’s neck.

Last night, Jame$ performed at Converse Rubber Tracks. During his set — which was probably just “All Gold Everything” and that other song he had — Trinidad stopped the music to talk about the state of New York City rap.

The rapper praised Dipset and then went on to say that Atlanta ran New York:

“I remember when New York ran this shit. When Dipset was fucking turnt the fuck up. What the fuck happened? I remember when New York rap was the shit, and us in the south, us bamas, we was like ‘what the fuck?’ and we just did our own thing. But now we run y’all, that’s crazy…I’m not trying to start nothing, but if you wanna do something we can do something cause I don’t give a fuck. I’m just being honest with you… Now every nigga popping out of New York you might as well tell he from Atlanta.”

New Yorkers are very protective of their grounds, so while Jame$ was going on his rant, people in the audience were notably annoyed by the statement.

So what do NY rappers think? Well, one already let it be known that they weren’t feeling Jame$’ words. Brooklyn boy Maino, who just put out a song about New York rap called “What Happened,” took to Twitter:

Jame$ took the high road when it came to Maino’s diss:

We’ll update when Papoose tweets something or unleashes some bars of fury.
