R. Kelly is undoubtedly one of the most influential R&B artists of the past 25 years.

He’s managed to re-create his sound, his image, and his influence all without losing himself in the process. Over the weekend, the “Genius” singer/songwriter celebrated the 20th anniversary of his classic 12 Play album.

Just a few days later, the crooner would find himself celebrating the completion of his twelfth studio album, Black Panties, with a few of the music industry’s most elite journalists.

Luckily, GlobalGrind was right there with Mr. Kelly. After his Black Panties listening session, GlobalGrind sat down with the R&B legend to discuss his new album, working with Lady Gaga, his studio sessions with Michael Jackson, his childhood, and a new collaboration with Celine Dion.

We also discussed lighter topics like his favorite type of panties, and of course, the hilarious petition to make his “Ignition (Remix)” the National Anthem.

If you have a few minutes, take a second to read Brittany Lewis’ account of the night she received black panties from R. Kelly, here.

R. Kelly’s Black Panties album is scheduled to drop December 10. Check out our exclusive interview with R. Kelly above.
