Now this is super bizarre…

A newspaper deliveryman in North Carolina came close to possible death when he found a teddy bear that had a bomb in it.

According to the Huffington Post, Anthony Cannon was on his usual delivery route when he saw a suspicious teddy bear laying in the middle of the street.

As he went to pick it up, he noticed something fell out of it.

He said to the press:

“I thought it was real unusual to be sitting in the middle of the road,” Cannon, 42, said by telephone. “It was pitch-black out there. When I picked the bear up some sort of container fell out.”

Huff Post reports:

Not realizing he was holding an improvised explosive device, Cannon left the bear and put the cylindrical item in his car for the 20-minute drive back to Shelby. He drove to his cousin’s home, where he examined what he had found more closely in the light.

After noticing it was a small, liquid-filed bottle covered with tape and some wires coming out of it Cannon suspected what he was holding might be dangerous set the device down on the porch and dialed 911.

Among those who responded was a bomb squad from the larger nearby city of Gastonia who within about two minutes of walking up said it was an IED and cleared everyone out of the house

Cleveland County Sheriff Alan Norman said:

“It could have caused personal injury had the device activated.”

The bomb has since been deactivate and sent to a lab. In more interesting news it turns out another bomb was discovered in the same area just six months prior and in 2009, authorities discovered two homemade bombs several days apart in Shelby. None of those cases has been solved.

Mmm… strange..
