Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are kind of a big deal, so while the world was recognizing their greatness tonight at the AMAs, they used their platform to promote tolerance.

While accepting the award for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop album, Macklemore quoted Martin Luther King Jr., acknowledged Trayvon Martin, and shunned racial profiling… all in a live satellite feed from a recent tour stop. Macklemore told fans:

“Due to the fact that we are in Florida tonight accepting this award I want to acknowledge Trayvon Martin and the hundreds and hundreds of kids each year that are dying due to racial profiling and the violence that follows it. This is really happening. These are our friends, our neighbors, our peers and our fans, and it’s time that we look out for the youth and fight against racism and the laws that protect it.”

Most people just thank friends, family, and peers while accepting their awards but like the trailblazers they are, these guys took it to a whole new level.

Congrats!
