The Daily Grind Video

Remember when former Marine and waitress Dayna Morales found a gay slur instead of a tip on her receipt earlier this month?

Now, the family who left the $91 bill with no extra cash is claiming that the whole episode is a hoax.

The New Jersey family, who dined at the Gallop Asian Bistro in Bridgewater, contacted NBC New York after seeing reports of Morales’ story and the outpour of support she was receiving. They even produced a receipt, printed at the same time on the same date and for the same amount, that showed that the family left an $18 tip and not the message:

“Sorry, I cannot tip because I do not agree with your lifestyle and the way you live your life.”

To prove their point, they also produced a Visa bill, which indicated their card was charged for the $93.55 meal plus the tip, for a total of $111.55.

They believe Morales’ claim is her way of provoking a reaction.

“Never would a message like that come from us,” the father of the family, who has not been named, protested.

He went even further, telling reporters that he refused to vote for New Jersey Governor Chris Christie because he opposed same-sex marriage.

Despite the claim that the receipt could be a hoax, Morales’ story has garnered thousands of dollars on her behalf, which she said she will donate to the Wounded Warrior Project.

But the wife countered this gesture of apparent good will saying: “I just felt like people have a right to know that – it’s fine if people want to donate to her or to the Wounded Warriors but they’re doing it under a false pretense.”

The restaurant, who could not reproduce the receipt for the family’s records, is launching an internal investigation.
