Let’s try epic fail, Marie Claire.

Cornrowshave long been popular within the Black community and anyone rocking them today is certainly not making a bold statement or taking things to a “new epic level.” In response to the magazine’s lack of knowledge about the old hairstyle trend, Black Twitter came together and gladly schooled the women’s lifestyle magazine with direct tweets expressing their outrage – making it clear that 18-year-old Jenner is not setting any kind of new trend.

After the backlash, Marie Claire did what most mainstream publications do when they’ve been called out for their ignorance and sent an apology tweet:

We didn’t mean to offend or imply that cornrows were new. Our tweet was poorly worded. We thought her hair looked great and recognize women have been styling their hair like this for ages.

Check out our gallery below of celebrities who prove even further that there’s nothing new or epic about cornrows.
