Looks like Miley Cyrus doesn’t have a clothing allergy after all. We’ve gotten so used to seeing her clad in barely-there ‘fits, that when she actually has something on it’s almost….shocking.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with showing some skin and sex appeal, but we’ve seen almost every inch of Miley’s body thanks to her tendency to overshare on social media and her skimpy Bangerz tour costumes that leave next to nothing to the imagination. But for the May 2014 cover of ELLE, we see a softer side of Miley – and she looks pretty darn good covered up.

As the face of Marc Jacobs’ Spring 2014 campaign, it comes as no surprise that she’s sitting pretty in a sequined tunic and matching pants from the designer’s FW14 collection. Her baby blue eyes are brought out thanks to her blonde pixy cut and a minimal face of makeup for what has to be one of her most stunning looks to date. It’s a refresher from all the antics of hers we normally find ourselves rolling our eyes at that remind us that her days as a Disney darling are long gone.

She revealed to the glossy:

“I’m really thankful that I started on Disney. I got the most intense training. There’s times where I wish I could have just started as a new artist, but the world has kind of allowed me to do that. I feel really lucky — a lot of kid stars get all crazy or stuck in what they were, so they can’t actually become what they’re meant to be.”

She went on to talk about how disassociating herself with Disney and her breakup with ex-fiancee Liam Hemsworth freed her, saying:

“When I went through a really intense breakup — you know, I was engaged — and when I was with him or when I was on Disney, the thing that gave me the most anxiety was not knowing what to do with myself when Disney wasn’t there to carry me anymore or if I didn’t have him. And now I’m free of both of those things, and I’m fine. Like, I lay in bed at night by myself and I’m totally okay, and that’s so much stronger than the person three years ago, who would have thought they would have died if they didn’t have a boyfriend.”

But it’s her fans who she says helped to giver her a purpose:

“I have guys and girls that come out, and they’re like, ‘The only reason I’m able to admit that I’m gay is because you’ve made me feel like that’s okay.’ That is so intense, because that is a part of this generation—it wasn’t always accepted—and I feel like I am a big part of that change. Or they know that I’ve struggled with depression, and that helped them get over theirs. That gives me a big purpose—a reason to wake up in the morning that’s bigger than to put on my fucking feathers and my little outfits.”

While some may find those “little outfits” offensive, they’re apart of a bigger message Miley says she’s hoping to send:

“Guy rappers grab their crotch all f**king day and have hos around them, but no one talks about it. But if I grab my crotch and I have hot model b**ches around me, I’m degrading women? I’m a woman — I should be able to have girls around me! But I’m part of the evolution of that. I hope.”

The magazine tapped the singer for their annual Women in Music issue, but it isn’t the only Hearst publication that she’s lending her pretty face to next month. Seventeen will also be rolling out issues starring Miley–however the magazine did not get her consent, forcing the glossy to use stock photos, reports WWD.

We have yet to get a peek at the Seventeen cover, but the showdown on the stands will come later this month, and we’re curious to see how it all goes down. Until then, head over to Elle to read more.
