The last U.S. soldier who was being held captive in Afghanistan (for over 5 years) was released this week back into the custody of the United States. Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl was freed from Taliban captivity in exchange for five Afghan detainees at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. The 28-year-old man appeared to be in good condition when he was given back to U.S. officials, and was able to walk. President Obama commented on the release of Bergdahl in a speech, and said that his recovery “”is a reminder of America’s unwavering commitment to leave no man or woman in uniform behind on the battlefield.” [Business Insider]

Rockstar Jon Bon Jovi‘s wife has been rushed to the hospital after accidentally slicing her wrist while chopping vegetables at their home. Dorothea Hurley was taken to the emergency room after the incident, and cops told the press that there was “heavy bleeding.” She received stitches at the NYC hospital and was released shortly after. Two teenage girls were found hanging from a mango tree after they were brutally gang-raped in a village in India, and now the cousins’ relative is calling for a public hanging of the rapists. While the family wants the killers to receive the same treatment the girls did, those mourning the victims in the village fear that the attacks will continue. [CNN]

Jodi Arias‘ murder trial made international headlines after the world learned she’d stabbed, shot and killed her ex-boyfriend in 2008, and now she will receive the death penalty. After attempting to be sidestep the punishment, a judge in Arizona denied her defense team’s request, despite her pleading self-defense in the murder case. [Daily Mail]
