This is one ride we don’t ever want to take.

A man suffered injuries to his neck, spine, and hip after an elevator shot up from the first to the 31st floor, hurling him into the roof.

According to Publimetro, the incident occurred at an apartment building that was recently built in Providencia, Chile.

“One man is suffering with injuries from an accident Friday afternoon in one of the building’s elevators at  Bustamante Community Park, located between East and Bustamante Matta, in the commune of Providencia.

The building opened about eight months ago the by the company Fernández Wood, one of the lifts of the Tower B building suffered a malfunction in its operation to rise rapidly to the top floor, clashing violently with the roof of the cabin.”

Jose Vergara Acevedo, 31, was a resident of the building. In the video above, you can see that before Acevedo even closes the door, the elevator rises. As the man tries to stop the elevator, it picks up speed, throwing him into the ceiling.

Acevedo is currently recovering from surgery on his spine. And now we can add this freak accident to the list of “Things That Give Us Panic Attacks.”
