Spokeswoman for the city of Akron, Stephanie York, announced on Monday that the details for the upcoming celebration are still in the works, but one thing is for sure — it’s going to be BIG.
“We want it to be a city-wide community event where everyone can welcome him home,” she said Monday night.
The city is also working with the LeBron James Family Foundation to coordinate the citywide celebration. There is no set date yet for the big party, but York says the date will be determined by James’ NBA schedule.
After the King’s dramatic announcement that he would be returning to Cleveland, fans, players, and even the Cavaliers’ coaching staff couldn’t contain their excitement. The NBA superstar penned a classy letter in Sports Illustrated about his decision and what going back to Cleveland means to him.
Before anyone ever cared where I would play basketball, I was a kid from Northeast Ohio. It’s where I walked. It’s where I ran. It’s where I cried. It’s where I bled. It holds a special place in my heart.
With fans overjoyed about his return, we’re sure this homecoming party will be one for the books.
