Young Money songstress Shanell has finally released her highly anticipated mixtape Nobody’s Bitch Vol. 2, hosted by radio personality Angela Yee.
The mixtape opens with an introduction from Angela and proceeds into “Ready,” a re-make of Soul II Soul’s “Back to Life.” Shanell’s take on the classic R&B song begins a cappella, which shows off her melodic, effortless vocal abilities.
“Ready” then transitions into “Service,” with Shanell’s sensual voice and use of the echo effect crafting an irresistible allure. “Hittin’ Like” pulls you in with its catchy, thumping baseline, while “Breaking Down” is a ballad about not wanting to let a lover go.
“No Time” featuring Trina explores the rants and raves of women fed up dealing with men who, quite frankly, don’t know how to act. “Since these n*ggas is p*ssy let ’em go f*ck themselves,” Shanell sings quite unapologetically.
Surprisingly, Nobody’s Bitch Vol. 2 is void of any of Shanell’s Young Money labelmates, yet proves she has enough talent to put out music with or without a YMCMB cameo.
