Dipset general Cam’ron initially sat down with Canadian website Montreality to reflect on his high school basketball career and first job in a Harlem sneaker store.

However, the interview took on a serious tone when Cam was asked about the death of Ferguson’s Mike Brown, the 18-year-old who was shot by a police officer.

Cam’ron told Montreality:

“Honestly, us New Yorkers…When it comes to situations like that we kinda soft as a city.”

The Harlem rapper expressed his anger about the murder of Staten Island’s Eric Garner, who was killed in a chokehold by a police officer on camera, and New York City’s lukewarm response to the injustice taking place in their own backyard.

Cam’ron said:

“In St. Louis Mike Brown gets killed, they wild out as they should. I’m not promoting violence…But something’s gotta be done to take a stand. As opposed to New York, we got two people that died over here we don’t say nothing. That happens a lot and we don’t say nothing.
