Adrian Peterson was indicted for child abuse this past week and now he’s facing jail time.
The NFL superstar is under fire after pictures of his 4-year-old son’s injuries surfaced, as they are allegedly from when Peterson beat him with a tree branch.
According to TMZ, the Vikings player’s case of abuse went too far for the DA office to consider it reasonable, being that he used a tree branch as a means of discipline.
The site reports:
The DA says parents are allowed to use discipline — presumably some physical force — but it has to be in line with reasonable community standards.
The DA said reports that a grand jury had previously rejected the case are false — the grand jury that indicted Peterson on Friday is the only to ever hear the case.
The DA says the grand jury heard the case for several weeks before making it’s decision.
Adrian could very well serve up to 2 years in prison if he is found guilty of the child abuse charges.
The NY Daily News reports that barring a plea deal, the footballer’s trial will most likely begin early next year, but so far a date hasn’t been set.
