You may just be getting familiar with R&B crooner BJ The Chicago Kid, but the “Perfect” singer has been doing his thing in the music business for a while now.

The Pineapple Now-Laters artist has written songs for R&B veterans like Mary J. Blige, Musiq Soulchild, Dave Hollister, and so many more, but received an international look when he graced ScHoolboy Q’s smooth Oxymoron track “Studio.”

Since then, people have paying close attention to BJ and all the new soulful music he’s been releasing. BJ stopped by GlobalGrind’s offices to discuss his forthcoming project, songwriting for legendary artists, and meeting R. Kelly for the first time.

Over the years, he’s worked closely with Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy, and Ab-Soul, so he also discussed why he’s not signed to revered hip-hop label TDE (Top Dawg Entertainment).

BJ’s currently working on a new project, so ladies, get ready. Watch BJ’s exclusive interview up top.
