Amar’e Stoudemire has proven to be a jack of all trades. Typically known for his basketball skills, killer fashion, and being a family man, he recently added movie producer to his growing list of achievements.

After reading the script to the sure-to-be box office favorite, Beyond the Lights, the baller was drawn in by the concept of the movie and decided to get on board as producer.

“The script was remarkable,” Amar’e says. “There were so many underlying messages and [director Gina Prince-Bythewood] covers a lot of aspects that are important. Not only in the music industry, but in life itself and different challenges that careers present.”

He also shares what drew him into movie, stating:

“I can relate to trying to perfect your craft and being the best at what you do. In the professional world, you do want to succeed and not submerge into a lifestyle that can be overwhelming,” he admits. “But it doesn’t happen.. much to me,” he finishes, laughing.

Beyond the Lights is set to hit theaters on November 14, only a day after the New York Knicks All Star’s 32nd birthday. Amar’e, who also makes a special appearance in the movie, will attend the New York premiere of the feature film.

Congrats are truly in order for the power forward. Check out Amar’e speak about Beyond the Lights above.
