Two window washers are currently being rescued by the FDNY after being trapped on scaffolding on the 68th floor of the World Trade Center.

NBC News reports:

Two workers were trapped Wednesday on a window-washing scaffold dangling 69 stories above ground off the face of 1 World Trade Center in New York, the tallest building in the Western hemisphere.

The workers were on their way to the top of the tower when one of the motorized cables supporting the scaffold snapped or came loose, fire officials told WNBC. Crews were trying to figure out the best way to rescue the workers — fix a cable or break a window to get them inside.

The workers were in harnesses and secure, and were not in imminent danger, fire officials said. Crews lowered extra harnesses for added safety, WNBC reported. Video showed the scaffold dangling at a sharp angle.

The first office tenants moved into the tower last week, more than 13 years after the original World Trade Center was destroyed. The new tower stands 1,776 feet and 104 stories.

After being trapped for some time, the FDNY is busy getting the workers into the building.

The building, also known as the Freedom Tower, recently opened to the public this month.
