Eva Mendes finally made her post-pregnancy debut on The Ellen DeGeneres Show this week, and although she looked amazing, the talk show host wasted no time before grilling her on all things baby Esmeralda.

The 40-year-old actress looked cute in a flared red dress while stepping into the hot seat, where Ellen immediately called her a liar after playing a clip from February showing Eva denying her pregnancy.

Eva responded:

“I was so early on and all moms will understand, you’re not supposed to tell anybody during your first, well certainly not the world, in your first trimester,” Mendes explained about why she decided to stay mum.

“And my mother didn’t even know yet. So that would have been an awkward phone call. ‘Hey mom did you catch ‘Ellen’ today?’ Um, oops!”

Fortunately, it was all in good fun, and Eva was still willing to share some little details about her and Ryan Gosling‘s baby girl. As far as her sleeping through the night?

“No! No, God no. She’s two months! You know we’re getting the hang of it, the sleeping thing, but yeah I’m exhausted and it’s the best,” Mendes said.

“Really, I’m so incredibly tired. I thought I was tired before at times, but no. Nothing like this, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

The most important piece of info she shared, however, was how she lost her baby weight:

“You know, breastfeeding.

“I’ve always heard it. It really does help to shrink your uterus back to normal size. It does! I know it’s a really weird thing to say, but it does.

“So breastfeeding is really helping and then obviously you want to be healthy for the baby because she’s eating kind of what I’m eating so you want to make good choices.”

We can’t wait to see the first official photos of Esmeralda. The sooner the better, Eva.
