He will not lose.

Jay Z was embroiled in a court case in which former engineer Chauncey Mahan sued him after claiming ownership of 45 songs, most notably “Big Pimpin” and other tracks on Vol 3… The Life and Times of S. Carter. Seeing as how he worked with Jay from 1998 to 2002, the judge dismissed the lawsuit because too much time had passed. And now, according to Billboard, an appeals court has upheld that ruling.

In addition to losing the case, Mahan has also been ordered to pay Jay Z’s lawyer fees. His attorneys initially said that Mahan’s claims are “plainly barred by the three-year statute of limitations contained in the Copyright Act, and have been for more than a decade.”

This isn’t the first legal run-in involving Jay Z and Mahan; the latter was allegedly part of a extortion plot attempting to sell Jay his own master recordings, which he assumed went missing back in 2002.
