When you’re an artist who’s as popular as Kendrick Lamar, anything you say can be taken out of context or cause a Twitter firestorm.

After breaking the Internet on Thursday with his new track “Humble” and the dope visuals to go along with it, K. Dot caught the wrath of feminist Twitter for a few bars. In the track, Kendrick rapped, “I’m so f**king sick and tired of the Photoshop/Show me something natural like afros on Richard Pryor/Show me something natural like ass with some stretch marks.” Critics said he was caught up in respectability politics, shaming women who choose to wear weaves, might love an Instagram filter, or may not be “natural.” Nonetheless, some Kendrick fans understood his perspective, tweeting things like:
