A wave of fresh Black talent is making its way to film and television in a way that was missing only a few years ago. From successful shows like Atlanta to award sweeping movies like Moonlight, audiences are finally getting what they’ve been wanting for a while — diverse and nuanced voices that entertain and deepen our understanding of the world.

Now we have content like The Get Down and the upcoming Detroit film that reconnects us with Black history in ways we’ve never witnessed. We also have Black-led blockbusters like Get Out and the much anticipated Black Panther movie that prove, yes, Black people can make money too. Not to mention, smaller drama and comedy shows are giving us characters to connect with in our everyday struggles.

The key people bringing such creativity to life are a crop of new actors holding their own against veteran talent. With their unique skills, future narratives can only get more interesting.
