The secret behind Jon Snow‘s true lineage shook Game of Thrones to its core—fans went the majority of the show thinking he was just the Stark family ‘bastard,’ when it turns out he is a legit Targaryen and the one true heir to the Iron Throne, as the legitimate son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen.

His claim is even stronger than that of his aunty-lover’s (sorry, Daenerys), whom he most recently bent the knee to. What a twist.

What’s more is, Game of Thrones sort of hinted at Jon’s potential to become king seasons ago. Courtesy of a new Reddit post, we’re reminded of Stannis Baratheon‘s daughter Princess Shireen, who suffered from greyscale and burned to death in one of Melisendre‘s needless sacrifices to the Lord of the Light. Before her untimely passing, Princess Shireen befriended Ser Davos, who at the time was Stannis’ loyal Hand to the King at Dragonstone. When Shireen started teaching Davos how to read, the first word (rather, name) she taught him hinted at the new King in the North Davos would later serve. AKA Jon Snow. AKA Jon (real name, Aegon Targaryen) Stark:

It turns out Princess Shireen had the kind of insight Melisendre could only dream of having. May she rest in peace.
