Major strides were made when by the end of Barack Obama’s presidency, he exercised his constitutional rights to grant executive clemency for 1,927 federal inmates, particularly those imprisoned for nonviolent drug offenses. 504 of those inmates were serving life sentences for drug-related cases they received during the War on Drugs.
