Everyone is raving about Ella Mai and her hit record Boo’d Up these days, but the 23-year old was on her way to stardom before making it big in the states. Back in 2014, Ella competed on season 11 of the U.K.’s X Factor as part of a trio, Arize.
But the group didn’t advance beyond the initial audition for the judges. However, the new title holder for Summer Anthem banger kept pushing after the group split. She uploaded a four-track solo EP of originals to SoundCloud titled Trouble, then caught her big break after getting discovered on Instagram — she signed to DJ Mustard‘s label 10 Summers Records.
From aspiring British girl group member to having the biggest song of the Summer in the states, and a platinum record — Ella Mai is certainly up next.
She’s also proof that divine timing is EVERYTHING. Stay woke.
