Last week, news broke that Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger of Nickelback were engaged, leaving many music fans in shock – seeing that no one even knew they were in a relationship!
As it turns out, we weren’t the only ones surprised about their relationship and engagement, since Chad’s parents didn’t even meet Avril until after their engagement was official.

Chad recently told Hello! Canada in an interview:
“You never know what your parents are going to say when you tell them you’re getting married — especially when it’s with someone they haven’t met yet! mom is a huge fan of Avril’s, so putting her on the speaker phone and telling her the news was hilarious and equally embarrassing.”
Avril said of breaking the news:
“Everyone is super stoked for us. The reaction from our friends and family has been awesome!”

Chad also admits he’s nervous to visit Avril’s hometown in Ontario:
“I find that almost as terrifying as telling your parents you’re going to tie the knot. You just never know when someone is going to come out of the woodwork with a story that starts off with, ‘Let me tell you about the time . . .’ But I know she is dying to take me to La Pizzeria to try her favorite pizza in the world!”
That’s crazy that the parents had never met Avril before the proposal, but thankfully, they approve!
