The most exciting night in music occurs on Sunday, February 10, 2013.

The 55th Annual Grammy Awards is the most celebrated day in music, where dreams are made and dreams are stolen.

This year’s Grammy Awards is a special one for many reasons, one reason being it’s the day the Chinese New Year begins.

DETAILS: And the winner is…The 55th Annual Grammy Nominations List

2012 represents the “Year Of The Dragon,” and for music, 2012 has been pretty good.

From Frank Ocean’s groundbreaking album, Channel Orange, to Nas’ brutally honest album, Life Is Good, music this year has been quite moving.

Oh, and we can’t forget about those fun nights with pop rock band Fun.’s “We Are Young” ringing in the background at your favorite bar or Mumford & Sons’ heartfelt “I Will Wait.”

GlobalGrind decided to take a look back at the winners of the 2000 Grammy Awards, and compare them to their fellow “Year Of The Dragon” artists in 2012.

Twelve years ago, Christina Aguilera won “Best New Artist,” while Carlos Santana’s band Santana racked up by winning a whopping 9 Grammy awards for “Album Of The Year,” “Record Of The Year,” and “Song Of The Year,” among many other categories for their classic album Supernatural

Take a trip down memory lane to see how this “Year Of The Dragon” artists stack up against their “Year Of The Dragon” predecessors in 2000.

ALBUM OF THE YEAR: 2012

Dominated by 11 great men, the “Album Of The Year” category this year will strictly be a testosterone vs. testosterone competition. With no women nominated for this category, it really is a toss up between Mumford & Sons and Frank Ocean.

  • Some Nights – fun.
  • Babel – Mumford & Sons
  • Channel Orange – Frank Ocean

RECORD OF THE YEAR: 2000

Carlos Santana and Rob Thomas’ “Smooth” was a Latin lover’s dream. With the raspy rock vocals of Matchbox Twenty’s frontman Rob Thomas and Carlos Santana’s undeniable Latin flavor, “Smooth” was more than deserving to be crowned the “Record Of The Year” in 2000.

  • Backstreet Boys – “I Want It That Way”
  • Cher – “Believe”
  • Ricky Martin – “Livin’ La Vida Loca”

RECORD OF THE YEAR: 2012

If you haven’t hummed “Somebody That I Used To Know” at least once this year, your year was probably pretty sucky. Gotye and Kimbra’s smash hit “Somebody That I Used To Know” is undoubtedly one of the best records of the year, but Gotye is up against a few heavy contenders with Frank Ocean’s “Thinkin Bout You” and Fun’s “We Are Young.”

  • Record of the Year
  • “Lonely Boy” – The Black Keys

  • “Unpretty” TLC
  • “You’ve Got A Way” Shania Twain

SONG OF THE YEAR: 2012

This is one of the toughest categories for this year’s Grammys. The “Song Of The Year” winner may surprisingly be Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe,” but we also have to remember that Miguel’s “Adorn” has been covered by virtually everyone.

  • Song of the Year
  • “The A Team” – Ed Sheeran
  • “Adorn” – Miguel
  • “Call Me Maybe” – Carly Rae Jepsen
  • “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” – Kelly Clarkson
  • “We Are Young” – fun. featuring Janelle Monáe

BEST POP SOLO PERFORMANCE: 2000

Sarah McLachlan’s “I Will Remember You” will make any harden criminal cry on cue. The beautiful ballad was initially recorded and released in 1995, but after it was featured on the singer’s live album, Mirrorball, Sarah found herself back at the Grammys for another round of wins. “I Will Remember You” marks the third straight Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Performance.

Christina Aguilera – “Genie In A Bottle”

Madonna – “Beautiful Stranger”

Alanis Morissette – “Thank You”

Britney Spears – “…Baby One More Time”

BEST POP SOLO PERFORMANCE:2012

Last year, Adele was the starlet of the Grammys, winning six awards for her sophomore album, 21. It’s quite possible she may cause an upset if she wins “Best Pop Solo Performance.”

  • “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” – Kelly Clarkson
  • “Call Me Maybe” – Carly Rae Jepsen
  • “Wide Awake” – Katy Perry
  • “Where Have You Been” – Rihanna

BEST RAP ALBUM: 2000

The tides began to turn when Detroit rapper Eminem released his acclaimed Slim Shady LP. The “My Name Is” rapper was virtually unknown in the music, but The Slim Shady LP definitely changed the cultural landscape of hip-hop for the better.

Other nominees included:

Busta Rhymes – E.L.E.: Extinction Level Event (The Final World Front)

Missy Elliott – Da Real World

Nas – I Am…

The Roots – Things Fall Apart

BEST RAP ALBUM: 2012

The rappers up for this coveted hip-hop honor all delivered very solid albums this year, but the unfiltered honesty and the Nas’ ability to resurrect the art of storytelling in hip-hop on his 10th studio album, Life Is Good, will probably win Nas his very first Grammy.

  • Best Rap Album
  • Take Care – Drake
  • Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album, Pt. 1 – Lupe Fiasco
  • Life Is Good – Nas
  • Undun – The Roots

  • Based On A T.R.U. Story – 2 Chainz

TLC found themselves explaining what a “scrub” meant in every interview when smash hit “No Scrubs,” written by Xscape members Kandi Burruss and Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, spent countless weeks at number one spot on the music charts. All the explanations weren’t in vain, the group took home the award for “Best R&B Song” that year. Dating a scrub pays off.

BEST R&B SONG: 2012

The category may be up for debate, but GlobalGrind thinks the winner of this category is pretty apparent. Although Trey Songz’s “Heart Attack” and Elle Varner’s “Refill” resonated strongly with R&B lovers, Miguel’s love ballad “Adorn” broke genre barriers.

  • Best R&B Song

  • Cher – Believe
  • Ricky Martin – Ricky Martin
  • Sarah McLachlan – Mirrorball

BEST POP VOCAL ALBUM: 2012
