It was a match made in hip-hop heaven.

But the fairytale marriage of Queens rapper Nas and singer siren Kelis unfortunately didn’t have a happy ending.

Kelis’ pastel green wedding dress, a bold accessory piece on the cover art of Nas’ latest studio album Life Is Good, is a painful reminder of that.

We were all a little surprised about Nas’ decision to get personal on his cover art, yet we appreciated the honesty, much like Kelis did.

In her response to the sensitive cover, she said:

“…for me, I feel like especially for someone in hip-hop to kind of be genuine and honest, whatever the honesty is about, I think it’s awesome. So my feelings about it aren’t really necessarily valid, it’s just the fact that as an artist I can respect that he wears his feelings on his sleeve.”

However, that doesn’t seem to be the full story.

Nasty Nas sat down with Hot97’s DJ Funk Master Flex, and detailed exactly what transpired between he and his now ex-wife.

“First she was like, ‘Are you dissing me?,’ Nas recalls of the exchange. “But I was like ‘C’mon shorty, we grown. There was a time when there was turmoil, but I’m not tryna play you. I’m just showing what people know. We split. The divorce was public [and] people knew about it’. Honey’s a great girl, she [just] caught a bad rep in the whole thing. It wasn’t fair though. [But] we in a better place.”
