James Holmes is the 24-year-old suspected gunman who killed 12 people and wounded 38 others early Friday morning as moviegoers were attending the premiere of Batman: The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Colorado.

Here is the most current information we have on suspected shooter James Holmes:

-Holmes was born on December 12, 1987

-Holmes graduated from Westview High School in Rancho Penasquitos in 2006.

-Holmes is a native of San Diego and moved to Aurora, CO to pursue his PhD in neuroscience.

-The University of California, Riverside can confirm that a person by the name of James Holmes graduated from UCR with a BS in neuroscience in the Spring of 2010. His last known address was in San Diego.

-Holmes was on the road to getting a PhD in neuroscience at the University Of Colorado School Of Medicine in Denver. He began his studies in the fall of 2011, but dropped out last month.

-Holmes had one traffic summons for speeding in October 2011

-Holmes allegedly wore what appeared to be a bulletproof vest and riot-type mask as he opened fire in the Century Aurora 16 movie theater with three weapons.

-Holmes used at least four guns – an “AK type” rifle, a shotgun and two handguns – according to a federal law enforcement official. The official also said that he used tear gas.

-Holmes reportedly dressed up as Batman’s arch-villain “The Joker” at the time of the shocking attack. He had his hair painted red, he said he was ‘The Joker,’.

-Holmes wore a helmet, vest, leggings, throat protector and groin protector when he allegdely carried out the shooting.

-According to neighbor who lives in Holmes building, he was someone “nobody knew,” seemed “reclusive” and not the type to say ‘hi’ in the hall.

-Holmes is currently in police custody, and the FBI says there is no indication the attack is tied to any terrorist groups.

-Holmes was arrested with 3 weapons Ar-15, Remington 870 shot gun and 40 caliber Glock handgun.

-Law enforcement officials said that the weapons were bought from local stores of two national chains, Gander Mountain Guns and Bass Pro Shop in May.

-Upon searching Holmes’ apartment, police found that the residence was “booby-trapped,” and police saw what looked like “buckets of extra ammunition” and some kind of chemical inside his home.

– Sources tell ABC news that two and a half hours before the shooting, Holmes took 100 mg of Vicodin.

Holmes has since been placed under arrest and remains in police custody. He is scheduled to appear in a Colorado courtroom on Monday, although no formal charges have been filed.
