The angry white man grips his 9mm pistol.
Tightly.
Eyes wide open.
Locked and loaded.
His target he does not know.
His target is a woman of prayer.
A woman of God.
An American woman.
He shoots.
And when that bullet strikes,
our flag loses one of its stars.
One star,
two stars,
three stars,
four stars,
five stars,
six stars.
Lost.
Ripped from the flag
that still flies at half-mast
because of Colorado’s dark night.
Wisconsin weeps.
And with the sleeve of ours shirts,
we try to dry her eyes.
We hold tight.
Some to their guns,
but most to each other.
Perfecting our union.
