If there’s one thing Ashanti is going to do in addition to making music, it’s travel. The 42 year-old New York native recently (June 15-June 19) made her first trip to the island of Bermuda to celebrate Carnival. Click inside to check out some photos from her visit!

The Granny Award-winning singer, songwriter and actress who was just announced to perform at Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Show, joined the Bermuda Tourism Authority’s float for “Revel de Road,” a parade which winds through the streets of Bermuda where participants don their most festive outfits and bands perform live music along the route. Ashanti wore a stunning iridescent outfit complete with a headpiece, wings (made of orange, purple, teal and gold feathers) and a shimmery blue eye makeup look to match.

“Visiting Bermuda for the first time during Carnival was an amazing experience,” said Ashanti. “The island is so beautiful and everyone made me feel welcomed. It was so much fun being on the road and I can’t wait to come back soon!”

Bermuda’s Carnival is one of the newest and fastest growing Carnivals featuring four days full of feathers, flags, paint, powder, music, live performances, DJ sets, sunrise fetes and boat cruises. It all culminates with the main event – Revel de Road – taking place on the fourth day. This day coincides with Bermuda’s National Heroes Day holiday, which honors notable Bermudians whose achievements have had lasting impacts on the island.

Ashanti posted some highlights from her experience in Bermuda on her Instagram, stating that “she loves and respects the culture and she loves touching the people.”
