The new Betsy DeVos-led Department of Education is off to a rough start. The agency took to Twitter in an attempt to highlight African-American icon W.E.B Du Bois and misspelled his last name. Not only was his name misspelled during Black History Month, but the department sent out a follow-up apology tweet, and ‘apologies’ was spelled wrong as well.
Of course, Twitter had a ball with this one.
1. Timing is everything.
In case you were holding onto hope @BetsyDeVos wouldn't ruin everything. The Dept. of Ed misspelled DuBois... during #BlackHistoryMonth. https://t.co/dBI3g53gRP

2. #NewAbnormal
No small irony that the typos come from the Department of EDUCATION's account. Welcome to the new abnormal. https://t.co/HcNajlL8i8

3. It surely does feel like it.
So the US Dept. Of Education misspelled W.E.B. DuBois name earlier, then made a misspelling in their apology tweet. Is America being punked? pic.twitter.com/C7wbyQuUh6

4. #DeVosEffect
Turns out not only did EDUCATION Dept. misspell DuBois, they misspelled their apology too. #IsOurChildrenLearning https://t.co/Nt8WjQ0wYR
