When news broke that American fashion powerhouse Ralph Lauren would be designing the Olympic 2012 uniforms for team U.S.A, there was both excitement and anticipation of what to expect from the uniform designs.

Recently, a sneak peek of the uniforms was revealed and while they kept their patriotic flair, Ralph Lauren received a lot of backlash for having them manufactured in China.

According to USA Today, Senator Bernie Sanders voiced his opposition to the uniforms saying:

“The Olympics are a time when Americans take pride in our nation’s top athletes as they strive for gold. At a time when millions of Americans are unemployed, there is no reason why U.S. Olympic uniforms are not being manufactured in the U.S.”

Wanting to prove their American pride as one of the top American designers, Ralph Lauren has already pledged to produce the 2014 Olympic uniforms in the U.S.

“We are honored to continue our longstanding relationship with the United States Olympic Committee in the 2014 Olympic Games by serving as an official outfitter of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic teams,” says the fashion powerhouse in a statement. “Ralph Lauren promises to lead the conversation within our industry and our government to address the issue to increase manufacturing in the United States.”
