Katy Perry is one beautiful, badass, bubblegum pop princess.
The California Gurl’s third studio album Prism dropped today, and it’s the kind of record that sticks with you after just one listen. Obviously, it’s catchy as hell, but what else would you expect from Katy? That girl churns out hits.
Katy Perry’s appeal is undeniable, believe me, I’ve tried. Back in 2008, when “I Kissed A Girl” was released to the masses, I thought Katy Perry was nothing more than the pop fad du jour, cashing in on our creepy obsession with lesbians. But she surprised me, and continues to do so with the release of Prism.
Sure, she has formidable competition in the pop realm, but Katy more than holds her own. She’s the most accessible of the bunch; not as exotic as Rihanna, as crazy as Lady Gaga, as eager to shock as Miley Cyrus, or as brash as Ke$ha.
And she certainly makes the most empowering female anthems of the group, if you’re into that.
So yeah, how do we love Katy Perry? Let us count the ways.
