Family and friends in Ferguson are mourning the death of another black male in the St. Louis area while still reeling from protests sparked over Michael Brown’s death, and the failure to charge the man who killed him.

DeAndre Joshua, 20, was found dead inside a parked car by a resident of an apartment complex near Canfield Green Apartments on Tuesday — the same complex where Brown was shot dead by a white Ferguson police officer named Darren Wilson.

Authorities say a pile of broken glass and blood lay beside the white Pontiac Grand Prix Joshua was found inside. Joshua is rumored to be a good friend of Dorian Johnson, an eyewitness and friend of Brown’s who was also at the scene when the teenager was killed.

Though family members aren’t sure how Joshua died, they are tying the incident to the protests that erupted after a grand jury failed to charge Wilson for Brown’s death. USA Today reports:

“I’m still stunned because he never had any problems. He was a good kid,” relative Brian Joshua, 45 said, as other family members sobbed. “It’s like somebody just hit us with a brick.”

DeAndre Joshua graduated from high school and worked at Walmart, he said.

Walmart said Joshua had worked at Walmart as a stocker for more than a year.

“We are deeply saddened to learn the news that one of our Wal-Mart family members tragically lost his life,” Dacona Smith, senior vice president for operations at Walmart, said.

It’s unclear what an investigation has revealed so far (although police have ruled his death a homicide), but Joshua’s grandmother, Renita Towns, gave a statement so profound, it encompasses all of what Ferguson has been through in the last three months:

“Police don’t care — he’s black,” Towns said.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to DeAndre’s family.
