The hood classic “Baby Boy” is one of those movies that you have to watch every single time it comes on TV, even if you didn’t plan on it.

LIST: GlobalGrind’s Top 10 Movies That Should Make Part Two!

And every time it comes on you fall in love with the hood relationship between Sweetpea and Kim all over again.

Well, a lot has changed since 2001. Sweetpea and Kim have moved up out the hood, had some kids and are now starring in Bounce TV’s new sitcom “Family Time.” Not exactly, but the actors Angell Conwell and Omar Gooding (who played Kim and Sweetpea respectively) have moved in to new roles on a new sitcom and are re-playing familiar couple territory.

EXCLUSIVE: Cuba Gooding Jr.: “Red Tails” Didn’t Want Me!

GlobalGrind had the pleasure of catching up with Angell on the eve of her new show “Family Time’s” premiere. Angell let us in on everything from the plot of the new show, how it is working with Omar again, and how she would survive a Zombie apocalypse if needed.

Check out the exclusive interview below, and be sure to tune into “Family Time” when it premieres tonight at 9 p.m. on Bounce TV.

GlobalGrind: You have a new show out now, “Family Time,” it airs on Bounce TV.

Angell Conwell: Yeah, Bounce TV, it’s a pretty new network, it launched last year, but it’s growing really fast and it has really good content. People are really receiving the network well. It was founded by Martin Luther King III, Andrew Young, Will Packer and Rob Hardy. “Family Time” is actually their premiere sitcom; this is the first time that they’re dipping into original programming, so it’s pretty exciting.

What can the viewers expect from a show like “Family Time?”

“Family Time” is created by Bentley Kyle Evans, most people are familiar with Bentley even if they don’t know they’re familiar with him, he created the “Jaime Foxx Show” and he was the executive producer of “Martin.”  He has definitely had his fair share of success in the sitcom realm so he’s basically as good as it gets when it comes to sitcoms and comedies.

The show stars Omar Gooding and myself, and we are a married couple with two kids, and the title is really telling, it’s about family and all of the different, fun, exciting, comedic elements that come along with family.

We came up with some cash and so we move from the hood to all good, that’s the slogan and there are just a lot of funny situations.

You’re working with your co-star, Omar, from the hood classic “Baby Boy” again?

Everyone is like “Uh oh, Sweetpea and Kim! Sweetpea and Kim are back together!” And I think that’s really funny because “Baby Boy” is such a classic in its own right so it’s really cool actually. I think we’ve matured a lot over the years just in general, professionally and personally so its good to kind of reunite in a way where we’re mature now, so its fun.

It’s kind of like your characters grew too from “Baby Boy.”

I know! It’s funny because we do come from the hood, so it is really interesting how we’ve come together. “Baby Boy” was in 2001 and now we’re in 2012 so it’s like over a decade later. Maybe Sweetpea and Kim went and had some kids. If they moved out the hood, this is what their life would be. If the viewers wanted to view it that way, I could see why because it’s kind of cute.

How has your chemistry evolved since the shooting of “Baby Boy” in 2001?

It is so funny because Omar and I, the first time we worked together was “Baby Boy” and honestly we hadn’t really worked together since. I’ve always known Omar was super talented, and he was able to do comedy and drama, and dramedy.

He’s able to do them all equally, not a lot of people are gifted in all those areas but he’s very on point in all those areas. I think I’ve grown a lot in these years and I think he was able to realize that when we shot the show, he told me that he was impressed, that I was able to really rise to the occasion and be able to handle a lead role and do all of that in such a short amount of time, but our chemistry is really good.

People seem to think that we have great timing and they really like us together so we’ll see how people respond, but I’m proud of us honestly, I’m really proud of us.

So there are other black sitcoms, like “My Wife and Kids,” other shows like “Family Time” on the air. How do you see your new show compared to them or is it a completely different take on things?

There are elements where I see that people may end up comparing it to shows, maybe even elements from “Martin” or  “The Jaime Foxx Show” since Bentley did create those shows as well.  There are similar elements, we have similar chemistry, but it’s something new, it’s a different time, and since it’s a different cast we’re going to have a different type of chemistry.

We are a black family and we embrace the fact that we’re a black family but we also have some class. Sometimes I feel people are so concerned with getting away from a stereotype of being a black family so it turns them into being a little unrelatable or not authentic. I know as a black woman there are certain traits and qualities that I have that I’m proud of. Yes, I’m a black woman and there are certain things I may do, with a little extra flavor or a little extra sauce. I might roll my neck a little extra from time to time; it’s just the way that I am. I think we have flavor. It’s similar to those shows, but maybe with just a little bit more flavor.

Just a little fun question now, I’m sure you’ve been hearing about all the so-called zombie attacks. There’s a viral video of a man in a zombie suit chasing people around that is viral on the web. What would you do if you saw one these zombies running at you full force? How are you going to react?

Oh my goodness that’s so funny!  That kind of reminds me of Halloween, when you go to those Universal Studios, when you go to those little festivals they have, I feel like I’ve actually been in that position in real life before.

I would probably just freeze up, I would probably stand my ground because they would expect for me to run so if I were to just stand there and look at them like I’m a gangsta, like “what, like what you gonna do?” Just hood with mine, I would expect that it would scare them off.

So you’re going to size up the zombie?

Yeah, I would just stand there and be like “what!”

And just get eaten?

Yeah I know and then you’ll see me in his tummy. That’s crazy though. Honestly it’s a little scary. I’ve actually seen some of the articles and the write-ups about cannibals and I just can’t read anymore, it’s a little frightening. Like where is this going? Are people really that hungry? What’s going on? I mean give them a meal, what is the deal?

Off the zombie topic now, outside of the show, do you have anything else you’re working on that you want our readers to know about?

I recur on the “Young and the Restless” which is always a blessing so I have some episodes that may be coming up soon. Just “Young and the Restless” and “Family Time.” Those are the two main things and then of course, I have a site coming up, CityofAngels.com, and we’re going to have a lot of fun stuff and activities and interactions with supporters on my site, so that’s coming up.
