George Zimmerman’s newest attorney Mark O’Mara held a press conference to react to the second-degree murder charge against his client.

STORY: George Zimmerman’s New Lawyer Speaks On “Stand Your Ground Law”

O’Mara said that Zimmerman is planning on pleading not guilty to murder in the Trayvon Martin shooting saying –

“He is concerned about getting a fair trial and a fair presentation in Sanford as the emotions are running high in Florida”

As for his clients safety, O’ Mara said-

“We need to protect him I ‘m hoping to keep him safe so we can resolve this.”

As for Zimmerman’s well being and state of mind, O’ Mara said –

“He is troubled with everything that has happened and he hopes hatred against his client settles down & case shouldn’t be tried with hate.”

O’Mara serves as a legal analyst for Central Florida’s WKMG Channel 6 and stated last month in an interview where he spoke on the controversial “Stand your ground law,” saying, some people have called Florida’s “stand your ground” law a “license to murder” statute “because it doesn’t require actions to avoid the confrontation.”

According to O’Mara’s law firm’s website

Mark M. O’Mara has been practicing Criminal and Family Law in Central Florida for 28 years, and is presently Board Certified as a Criminal Trial Specialist and a Marital and Family Law Specialist.

Mark is a former felony prosecutor and Division Chief and has handled all types of criminal cases, including traffic, property crimes, DUI, drug cases and Death Penalty cases.

He has extensive trial experience in both state and federal criminal defense. Mark also represents clients in contested divorce cases, involving child time sharing issues, alimony and division of assets.

Mark is also involved in many Bar activities, including serving as President of the Seminole County Bar Association and serving on both Circuit and Federal Grievance Committees. He currently serves as the legal analyst for Central Florida’s WKMG Channel 6.

Zimmerman will remain in custody until tomorrow for a bond hearing.
