The time has come to amplify the Occupy Movement like never before.

Civil Rights leaders and heads of the African American Clergy have joined with Representatives of Occupy Wall Street, David DeGraw & Shamar Thomas, to expand its base and intensify its efforts. OWS is welcoming Black church clergy into the movement to address income inequality and economic injustice under the banner of Occupy the Dream.

Dr. Jamal Bryant, Dr Benjamin F. Chavis, Jr. and African American clergy from across the country will gather to announce their integration into the Occupy movement to launch and mobilize “Occupy the Dream.”

WHAT: Press conference to announce Occupy Wall Street, expanding its base and intensifying its efforts by welcoming Black church clergy to join the movement to address income inequality and economic injustice under the banner of Occupy the Dream.

INFO: Dr. Jamal Bryant, Dr Benjamin F. Chavis, Jr. and African American clergy from across the country will gather to announce their integration into the Occupy movement to launch and mobilize “Occupy the Dream.” 

Dr. Jamal-Harrison Bryant, the new millennium minister is known for his no-holds-barred, outspoken style. Prior to his role as pastor, Dr. Bryant served as the National Director of the NAACP’s Youth and College division.  

His tremendous talents ignited immediate success when in April 2000 he founded Empowerment Temple Church, including the 43-member home Bible study group to the fastest-growing church in the AME denomination with a current membership of 10,000. Over the years, Dr. Bryant’s contributions have been highlighted in numerous publications, including Ebony, Gospel Today, USA Today, and The Source

He has also appeared on BET’s Meet the Faith, CNN, C-Span, and Politically Incorrect, and served as a panelist for national town hall meetings such as State of the Black Union hosted by Tavis Smiley.

He has been named “one of the nation’s most intriguing Christian figures” by GospelToday Magazine and “one of America’s future leaders” by Ebony Magazine. From a G.E.D to PH.D, Jamal-Harrison Bryant is truly a man on a mission; a community developer, cultural philanthropist; an author, and an impassioned social activist. 

Dr. Benjamin F. Chavis Jr. is a civil rights icon and veteran with a long track record of service for the National Council of Churches in the U.S.A. and the United Church of Christ Commission for Racial Justice in the 1970’s and 1980’s; and in the 1960’s Dr. Chavis was the NC State Youth Coordinator for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  

Dr. Chavis was also the former Executive Director and CEO of the NAACP and the National Director of the Million Man March in the 1990’s;  and Dr. Chavis is Co-Founder with Russell Simmons of the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network (HSAN). During the past several weeks, Dr. Chavis has been providing assistance to Russell Simmons in support of Occupy Wall Street.
