Labor Day is sneaking up and before you know it, fall nights will be nipping you in your perfectly toned summer butt.

PHOTOS: TREND ALERT: 6 Fool Proof Spring Trends That Stayed For Summer!

Sure, you’ve spent the whole summer in flirty sundresses and strappy sandals that you just can’t get enough of, but when the days get shorter and the leaves turn brown, those summer dresses will be tucked away for another year – but they don’t have to go just yet!

We are bringing you 10 tips to transition your wardrobe from the sunny days of summer, to the brisk days of autumn.

RULE #1: CONFIDE IN A TRENDY JACKET

Trust a trendy jacket to transition your summer dresses from summer to early fall. Stick with tones that are solid and earthy if you want to play it safe, or play down summer neons with black leggings. The leather moto jacket is a tried and true option, but this fall, play around with military inspired jackets and blazers to get a little more life out of your summer dress. Angela Simmons makes the look work by pairing a high-low dress with a jacket and a pop of color with the shoes to keep the look fresh and sexy.

RULE #2: BECOME FRIENDS WITH A CHUNKY SCARF

Make friends with chunky scarves. A perfect scarf can take that woven sweater that you wore all summer with the sleeves rolled up, right over to fall, and instantly makes a summer dress with leggings the perfect fall staple. Check out how Taylor Swift paired a cozy scarf with a dress and tights for a fun, yet versatile look.

RULE #3 DON’T BREAK THE SANDAL RULE

If the weather is lingering above 65, toes can come out to play, but be sure to balance this out effectively. Showing legs and toes may not be effective in the late days of fall, so be sure to balance the amount of little piggies showing by offsetting their nudity with a pair of full-length pants. Stick to a slim or skinny cut for fall so the sandals are not overshadowed. Kim K. follows the sandal rule to the tee in the photo above.

RULE #4: GIVE THAT FLIP-FLOP THE BOOT

Seriously, flip-flops are for the beach, and unless you plan on frolicking in the sand, trade in your summer flip-flops for a pair of chic ankle boots that will carry you through the winter. Solange showed off her legs in a pair of summer denim shorts that get a seasonally updated look when paired with fall essentials and a chic pair of booties.

RULE #5: BE MINDFUL OF THE SKIN TO CLOTHES RATIO

Arms or legs, just choose one! Don’t restrict yourself to stockings as soon as the summer sun dips! Keep the bare skin bare as long as possible. Whether legs or arms, it’s all good as long as you just choose one thing to breeze out. Some fall days get a little brisker than others, so always carry a light cardigan in case the winds of cold, cold change come blowing through.
