Ah..the weather is warming up (finally) and Summertime is just around the corner, and you can see the signs all over NYC. The restaurants with outdoor seating are crammed, the parks are filling up, and city dwellers are getting welcoming the sunshine! The “Social Season” for Music, Fashion and Entertainment in general also starts kicking in around this time, and this week was packed with amazing goings-on for everyone fortunate enough to be in the know and on the list.

There was the Fashion and Entertainment world’s version of prom: The Met Costume Institute Gala, followed by an incredible afterparty that found Lady O (Oprah) herself dancing on banquets with Puff and Pharrell; there was the premier of Common and Queen Latifah’s movie Just Wright (necessary side note – I love Common. I have stalker thoughts when he’s nearby. He’s just so damn beautiful and normal! But I’m scared of Serena); there was the Alvin Ailey Spring Gala Benefit (with celeb DJ Cassidy); there was even a good ol’ bowling tournament, Celebrity Srikeout (at one of my fave spots Harlem Lanes) with NY celebs like Angie Martinez, Joe Buddens, Rocsi and more competing for charity. And of course, let’s not forget the countless Cinco De Mayo celebrations to be had anywhere around the city (NY’ers like any excuse to drink). It was a great week to be out and about.

By now you’re saying “Wow! So which events did you hit?” Um…none of them. See, here’s the tricky thing about this time of year. Just as industry events are picking up, usually “normal life” obligations are picking up too, and you all know I mentioned before the struggle of balancing work events (because in this industry, our play is still part of our work) with the “normal life” stuff, and this was one of those weeks. Not that I was ever going to get invited to the Met Gala, or the afterparty (one day, though), so let’s set that aside right now. But as far as all the other great things happening around the city this week, I had to take a back seat. I had a concert with my choir at my church (What? Yes I go to church!); then on Cinco De Mayo I had a business dinner, which was actually a nice, long, fun dinner, but we didn’t think to order so much as a margarita (CincoDeMayo Fail); and various other commitments have just kept me out of the streets in general for most of this week.

The good news is that, like I said, the season’s just getting into gear. There will be plenty more parties, premiers, celeb/industry sporting events (softball games, golf tourneys), and the like to chose from between now and September. And there are very few once-in-a-lifetime, kill yourself if you missed it, events. But I do have a few things on my calendar for the upcoming weeks, so you’ll probably see your girl dancing on a banquette or just throwing back drinks and cutting up sooner than later. Oh, except you won’t know it’s me! Ha. The joys of anonymity.
