Now that the designer of Kate Middleton’s dress has been revealed as Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, it’s time to dish on who she is and where she came from.

Burton took over McQueen’s label after the designer killed himself in February 2010. She grew up in Manchester, England and studied at Central St Martin’s College. She joined the McQueen design studio a year before she graduated. In 2000 she was appointed its head of womenswear design.

“The creation of modern beautifully crafted clothes was at the heart of Lee’s vision,” Burton said in a statement published in the Guardian after Gucci named her the brand’s Creative Director. “I intend to stay true to his legacy.”

After the break, check out some celebs who rocked looks by McQueen.
