In celebration of what would have been rapper and actor Tupac‘s 40th birthday, we thought we’d take a look at the Harlem born, Baltimore and Marin City, CA-raised genius and hip-hop’s black Elvis.

In addition to the extensive body of music left in the wake of his murder, the enigma of Tupac has transcended race, class and gender, leaving an indelible mark in ink on the skins of those who love and emulate the slain rapper.

On forearms, bellies, shins, chests and lower back, there he is in Old English script: “Thug Life.” WHAT?

After the break, check out the cool and the crazy thug tattoos.
