John Wayne Gacy, the serial killer who was executed after being convicted of 33 murders, was at one time a resident of Waterloo, Iowa, but according to Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, she has his spirit.

Visiting Iowa on the eve of her announcement of her Presidential campaign, Bachmann told Fox News that she has, “the spirit” of John Wayne, oops! “Well, what I want them to know is just like, John Wayne was from Waterloo, Iowa. That’s the kind of spirit that I have, too.”

Here’s the thing. John Wayne, the iconic movie star, director and producer was born in Winterset, Iowa and has connection to Waterloo and John Wayne Gacy spent time in Waterloo, Iowa before he started his murderous streak.

The Washington Times caught the gaffe made by the would-be Presidential candidate and now has added to her collection of missteps.

John Wayne Gacy was a serial killer also known as the Killer Clown who committed the rape and murder of 33 teenage boys and young men between 1972 and 1978. Twenty-six of Gacy’s victims were buried in the crawlspace of his home, three others elsewhere on his property and four victims were discarded in a nearby river.

John Wayne was the man every guy wanted to be at some point or another. Wayne is famous for his distinctive voice, walk and height. A Harris Poll, released January 2011, placed Wayne third among America’s favorite film stars, the only deceased star on the list and the only one who has appeared on the poll every year since it first began in 1994.

In 1999, the American Film Institute named Wayne 13th among the Greatest Male Stars of All Time.
