Everybody loves a great girl anthem! From the dawn of time, girl anthems have been the source of many female artist’s number one status.

From Beyonce to Chaka Khan to Rihannagirl anthems live on and they never do seem to become completely played out.

Some might question why, but forget that part.

What is even more peculiar is the fact that many of these anthems have not been written by women. Men have been the masterminds behind many of these uplifting works of art.

Some of the best, most famous girl anthems have been written by men … men who seem to be able to write what women have been trying to express all these years.

Just recently, we interviewed Rico Love who penned Kelly Rowland’s “Motivation,” as well as her new single that promotes female independence. Also, Beyonce’s beloved girl’s anthem “Single Ladies” was also written by a man: The-Dream.

Aretha Franklin‘s “Respect” was written by the late Otis Redding.

Beyonce‘s Hit “Irreplaceable” was penned by famed singer/songwriter Ne-Yo.

Jimmy Jam wrote one of the ultimate girl anthems, Janet Jackson‘s “Control.”

Kelly Rowland’s new single “Feeling Me Right Now” was penned by Rico Love. On the track, Kelly declares that she “Don’t need no Clyde” because she’s “so Bonnie!”

Well there was some help from a woman on Chaka Khan‘s “I’m Every Woman.” Ashford & Simpson wrote the legendary song for this legendary singer.

The Weather Girls sent out the message to women that “It’s Raining Men” so the ladies would understand there are many fish in the sea, but this hit was penned by Paul Jabara and Paul Shaffer in 1979.

Lil Wayne wrote “How To Love” explicitly for the ladies and no one but the ladies love this song, so we classify it as a girl anthem.

Beyonce makes our list again. The-Dream wrote her latest girl anthem “Run The World (Girls).”
