Some might say BET is trying to bring scripted television back to life. Their latest scripted TV additions have included shows like The Game, Let’s Stay Together and their most recent, Reed Between The Lines. In case any of these don’t do it for you, the network is giving us a webseries entitled 8 Days A Week based on a critically acclaimed teen book series.

The miniseries follows six 20-somethings on a journey to make their dreams come true, and what better place to do this than Los Angeles? Throughout the series the six character’ paths cross and make for some serious drama. What’s ironic about this series, the cast are all super talented young actors and actresses pursuing their dreams in real life.

We got a chance to chat with Justin “Irocc” Williams an actor and rapper most known for his presence in the Gospel genre. Check out why we should help get this webseries to the smallscreen!

Global Grind: What really sold you and made you want to be involved with the show?

Justin: Well, when I first got the role I was supposed to play J-Shine. I was like oh, I’m a rapper? That’s easy. That’s just swag mixed with a little bit of me but then when they switched my role to playing Blue, I had to become more business and more out of my element in order to become an organized person and I’m not organized so, switching into that role playing Blue has been a transition for me because he got it all together and I don’t. I relate to that character so much because of his leadership, I know how to lead my team. I have a team of guys that run with me and I’m the lead and everyone knows that, it’s not a secret. ‘He got it he running it, let’s go, let’s make it happen!’

Is BET going to turn this into a TV show?

We don’t know. If you read this, tell them to put it on there! Tell them we got Global Grind behind us, let’s make it happen! That’s what we’re waiting on. It looks like hopefully we’ll get another season so it can keep going. It’s been getting good reviews.

I will definitely be watching. Why do you think it should be on TV?

It should be on TV because there’s nothing on TV today that gives people a real perspective on following your dreams and that gives balance to what you can go through in real life, from drama, happiness and surrounding yourself with like-minded people.

Skye Townsend plays your love interest. Do you guys end up together?

I try my little coy things, you know, I’m trying to holler at her. I don’t know how well it’s working. I’m trying to get her, I’m still pursuing her. I don’t think there is a time yet that I really have her, it’s never solidified that I got her but I think if you watch it you see it in her eyes you’re like, ‘oh ok he got her, he got her.’

What else do you have in common with your character?

His swag is crazy of course; he looks good just like me. In the show he wants to prove something to his dad. He was supposed to go to school be a lawyer, he goes to Howard, he drops out and after a year maybe, like freshman year he drops out and he’s like you know what I want to prove to the world? I want to prove to my dad and to my parents that I don’t have to follow certain rules and regulations. I want to be able to do me and I want to show you that I can do this, be an adult. That mindset, I’ve always been like that with my parents like I don’t have to do it your way. I’m like that with anybody so I always try to go my own route. People’s opinions don’t matter to me, it’s what I care about. If he were a real person we’d get along.

The cast is all really close in age as well as being talented artists. Are you guys close with each other outside of filming?

Yeah we’re all close. Me and Nick who plays J-Shine, he goes by 6 Star, he’s a rapper from Oakland-crazy, he got a mixtape out right now called Rookie Season, it’s really dope. I’m really close with him, that’s my boy. JJ plays White Boy, that’s my boy he’s actually been friends with my older brother for years, so I’ve know him for a minute. Skye Marshall I just met, first day shooting, didn’t know her I seen her in a couple magazines here and there but I never actually met her but me and her have become really close, we be shooting on each other on BBM and over email. Alex I just met her too, we started shooting and taping. She is hilarious. She has this whole thing where she’s a star already, she’s like “I’m a star I don’t know why I’m in the car with you guys.” She has this whole spiel that she says to us every time she sees us. We just met but I love ’em all. Of course Jade, Skye Townsend that’s my girl.

What can we expect from you after 8 Days A Week ?

I got a single coming out with a new artist, Fame also signed with MBK called “What Your Girl Like.” I produced it. I got my own stuff coming real soon, I’m working on it, it’s top secret. I’m out here in New York now. I just moved here so I’m in the studios, I wanted to do something new. I was like, ‘I want to be a bachelor in New York.’ I’m trying to get married a couple years from now, I’mma do my thing, trying to build my empire.
