Colbie Caillat hit the scene in 2007 with her debut album, Coco and has since made her soulful voice one of the most recognizable in the game.
Colbie has toured with John Mayer, collaborated with Jason Mraz and even plays the guitar, piano and ukulele. Needless to say, the girl has talent.
With two Grammys and three albums under her belt, the 26-year-old is currently on tour promoting her third album, All Of You. We caught up with Colbie while she was in Dallas getting ready to perform a set at the House of Blues.
We got a chance to chop it up with the singer where we got the inside scoop on her zenned-out set, as well as the after party. Starwood Preferred Guest (SGP) hosted the Colbie Caillat after party and as part of the SPG loyalty program, members could use their Starpoints to purchase tickets to the after party. They also got a chance to meet and hang out with Colbie.

GlobalGrind: What are your plans for your concert tonight?
Colbie Caillat: I’m playing at the House of Blues and my set is about 75 minutes long. I play songs from Coco, Breakthrough and the new record All Of You and I also have a cover song that I do by The Script.
I wanted [my stage] to look like someone’s backyard. There’s twinkle lights and paper lanterns, rugs and pillows all over the floor, so it has a cool vibe.
Sounds very zen. What have you been up to since you dropped your album All Of You in July?
I’ve been touring, so I’ve been out of the country a lot. We were in France, Germany, Switzerland and Portugal doing shows and promo and I’ve also been around the States playing shows and touring.
What’s been your favorite place that you’ve visited so far?
I really loved Switzerland. It’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to.
What kind of things have you been doing on your travels besides performing?
Really, there’s not enough time to go out and do a lot of things. Today in Dallas, we did radio all day and now I have interviews set up and later sound check for the show. If I can, I try to go to nice dinners or lunches and if I’m by a place by water, I like to go sightseeing or jogging around. I like to see the city I’m in.
Is jogging what you do to relax?
Yeah, be mellow. I like to hang with my dogs, my friends and boyfriend on the road. I’m very mellow but we’re always busy on tour, so I like to chill out when I can.
Who is on your iPod right now?
Andy Grammer who is opening for me, I love his new record. The Script, Adele and I always listen to Bob Marley.
Did you see Adele’s performance at the VMAs?
Yes, she was incredible.
Agreed! If you could interview anyone in the world who would you want the chance to sit down with?
Probably Lauryn Hill or Leonardo DiCaprio.
Do you have any favorites from Lauryn Hill?
I really love The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. I grew up listening to it and was inspired by it.
Do you have a favorite song from the album?
I do. I love “Tell Him.”
Halloween is coming up very soon, do you have any plans?
I fly home the day before Halloween from tour, so I’m going to be at home with family and friends and our dogs. We’ll probably watch movies and eat candy.
Where is home for you?
Southern California. I was born and raised there.
Do you have any plans for the holidays coming up?
For Thanksgiving my family and friends are going to Hawaii for a couple of weeks and then Christmas, we’re always at my grandparents’ house in Lake Tahoe.
Do you have any family traditions for the holidays?
For the fourth of July we usually go to Lake Tahoe and for Easter if we do something we’ll go to Hawaii, but, mainly it’s just Thanksgiving and Christmas with them.
Do you like to cook on Thanksgiving?
No, I can’t cook (Laughs).
Who usually does the cooking?
Usually my mom with my close family, otherwise my grandparents will cook or friends of the family. My sister helps too, because we’re both vegetarians so she knows how to cook for us since we don’t eat turkey and stuff like that.
What do you usually like to eat then on Thanksgiving?
I eat a lot of rice and lentils and beans and whole foods and salads and fruits, lots of nutritious stuff!
It sounds like you’re really close to your family. Do they travel with you a lot?
My mom came out for about a week on the tour and came to all the shows and helped. She just hung out which was nice. Otherwise, friends will come out and visit for a couple days.
What are your plans for the next six months?
I come home from tour in the next couple weeks and we don’t know what that next year looks like so…
To be determined?
