The Oscars are going to suck!

Less than 24 hours after Brett Ratner said he would not be producing this year’s awards show, Eddie Murphy has dropped out as well.

EXCLUSIVE: Eddie Murphy Said WHAT! About Rick Ross?

The Tower Heist director stepped aside after a storm of criticism over the weekend when he claimed “rehearsal is for f*gs” to a reporter at Vulture Magazine.

STORY: Eddie Murphy Lost His Classic Laugh

Eddie released a statement:

“First and foremost I want to say that I completely understand and support each party’s decision with regard to a change of producers for this year’s Academy Awards ceremony,” says Murphy in a statement. “I was truly looking forward to being a part of the show that our production team and writers were just starting to develop, but I’m sure that the new production team and host will do an equally great job.”

With the departure of Ratner and Murphy, the Academy is now searching for a new producer and host.

Tom Sherak, President of the Academy, is looking on the bright side of Ratner’s resignation. “It is our sincere belief — as well as Brett’s — that this terrible event may ultimately raise awareness and yield some good,” he said.

Only time will tell, but it’s going to be hard to top Eddie Murphy as host.

Will you still watch the Oscars without Eddie?
