We’ve all seen the classic Disney princess movies such as Beauty and the Beast, Snow White, Princess and the Frog, and many more.

The new Sleeping Beauty isn’t about princesses and prince charmings, but more about prostitutes and a brothel!

The plot is about a young woman named Lucy, who works as a sex worker with other girls. She is, at one point, drugged and falls asleep and begins her labor as a sex worker. Twisted and gloomy right? Yeah, I know!

When I was a young girl, I looked towards fairy tales to mold my idea of love. They were what I wished for myself when it came to falling in love and learning about life. I always wanted that prince charming!

STORY: Say It Ain’t So! Kristen Stewart Injured While Filming “Snow White”

This movie is not the playful fairy tale many girls look up to, but a twisted erotic fantasy. I can’t help but feel like the Disney name Sleeping Beauty is misleading young girls who might mistakenly think it’s a movie version of the Disney cartoon. For me, it ruins my squeaky clean image of the Disney movie.

I remember when my parents bought me The Little Mermaid on VHS, and it opened my imagination. I ran home, cracked the packaging out, and I’ve seen the movie maybe 100 times since! I wanted to be like Ariel, not only so I could swim and have cute fishes and a lobster as friends, but so I could meet a handsome young prince to sweep me off my feet. What girl wouldn’t want a love like that?

This new Sleeping Beauty, however, isn’t the only Disney named movie that misconstrued my mind. There is a new Snow White movie currently being filmed starring Kristen Stewart that will be much more realistic in scenery and script than the cartoon ever was. It will definitely have a much darker view on the story than the original that had birds chirping, flowers blooming, and cheerful singing. This is like Snow White on steroids, portrayed as a warrior princess instead of an image of beauty.

I think it’s pretty ridiculous that there are directors out there who want to add these dark and gloomy tones to classic happy Disney movies. Do they not realize that there will be little girls and maybe even boys out there who want to see their favorite princess have the overly joyful happy ending with the handsome prince on their arm? At this point, no childhood memory is safe!

What happens if a parent takes their kid to see the movie and sees little Emily Browning from A Series of Unfortunate Events all grown up as a sex worker? That’s more like a series of unfortunate adult events! Parents will have a lot of explaining to do once their child has seen the intense nudity in this new version. Once you see something, it can’t be unseen!

All I’m saying is, these directors can use a similar concept to the Disney classics, but they might want to reconsider naming it! For the sake of the young naïve children!
